Removed a person from the background?
You can start with a real holiday photo, remove a stranger in the background, and end up with a file that carries an AI editing signal. The same can happen with retouching or generative fill. Meta has acknowledged that minor AI modifications carried industry indicators and received its earlier “Made with AI” label.
Meta later changed the wording to “AI info” and said labels for content detected as only modified or edited by AI would move into the post’s menu. The placement and wording you see can vary as the apps change. A different label position is not proof that the hidden information disappeared.
Why sending it to another phone may not help
A photo file contains more than the visible image. An editor may attach information about its tools and edits. Transferring that same file can transfer the attached information too. Changing the phone doesn’t necessarily change the file.
Some sharing apps re-encode images or remove some information; others preserve it. The outcome depends on the particular transfer. We don’t recommend a screenshot as a reliable fix: it may reduce image quality, and it doesn’t guarantee that all possible labeling signals disappear.
That is why Transfa creates a cleaned copy of supported files after your final edit. It changes supported file information directly rather than asking you to shuffle the same photo between devices.
Does AI info prove my whole photo is fake?
No single container check can establish that. Meta’s guidance distinguishes AI-edited content from AI-generated content. A tool can leave provenance information after a small edit. Equally, a file without that information could still contain generated content.
Transfa’s report tells you which supported metadata containers were found and cleaned. It does not verify a Content Credentials signature, determine what percentage of a scene was generated, or provide an AI detector score. Invisible watermarks and visible content are outside the cleanup.
What can I try before posting again?
Keep the original, make your final edit, and use the free photo tool to clean a separate copy. Save the new file and use that copy for a future Instagram upload. Our step-by-step Instagram guide includes saving instructions for iPhone and Android.
If Instagram still labels it, don’t treat that as proof that the cleaner failed to process the file. A successful file cleanup and a platform labeling outcome are different checks. Follow the disclosure requirements that apply to what you are posting.
